Aadhar is a 12-digit unique identification number assigned to every resident of India. There seems to web of hype and apprehension spinning around Aadhar number and its practical applications. Aadhar card registration processes can be found to be going in full swing across the country. Already more than 100 crore Indians possess an Aadhar Card which is a tremendous achievement by the Government in providing a valid identity document to residents in every nook and corner of the country. The following article will tell you why you should take up Adhar Card Registration right away.

WHY ADHAR CARD REGISTRATION IS VERY IMPORTANT

The launch of Adhar number and its practical usage has started to benefit all the players in the hierarchy of Service Delivery and the Social Welfare Programs.

From the Government’s point of view, Aadhar number provides for better reach and targeting by ensuring inclusion of those without proper ID proofs. At the same time, it helps the Government to utilize scarce development funds more effectively.

From the standpoint of Industries/Enterprises (Telcos, Banks, Insurance, Oil & Gas companies), Aadhar linked bank accounts can prevent subsidy leakages and enable direct subsidy transfers using Adhar number. Also y enhanced customer verification reduces the associated transaction frauds.

Finally, from the resident’s point of view, Aadhar number has made them receive Full Eligible Welfare Payments directly from the government without any delay. Residents can save travel time and money since they shall be able to conduct financial transactions from any micro ATM near their home using Adhaar linked bank accounts. Any fraud related to benefits being siphoned off by an intermediate imposter can be completely eliminated by using Aadhar number.

HERE’S WHY ADHAR CARD REGISTRATION IS BENEFICIAL FOR ALL

The following section gives a brief account of the importance of Adhar card which is why you must get your Adhar Card registration done immediately:

A PERSONAL IDENTIFICATION DOCUMENT
  • Beneficiary confirmation: Various social sector programs require that beneficiaries be confirmed before delivery of the service. To ensure that the service reaches the targeted common users, Aadhar enabled service delivery is very helpful. Examples include, Subsidized food and kerosene delivery to PDS beneficiaries, Health service delivery to Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojna beneficiaries, Registering job applications by NREGS beneficiaries etc.
  • Attendance tracking: Identity authentication can be used for attendance tracking. Examples include programs such as Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (for students and teachers), NREGS where wages / outlay are linked to actual number of days the beneficiary reports for the program.
  • Financial transactions: Banks can authenticate a customer using Aadhaar as well as bank-related identity information (account number/user id along with password/OTP, etc.) before enabling banking transactions such as funds transfer, funds withdrawal, etc.

AS KYC CREDENTIALS
  • Know-Your-Customer for services: By using Adhar authentication, the service provider can verify identity and address of the applicant for enrolling a new customer or opening a new account for an individual. For instance, issuance of a new PAN Card, telephone connection, bank account or an internet service account for an online business can use Adhar authentication to reduce KYC costs.
  • General Proof of Identity: To put an end to the increasing number of impersonation cases, customers/ subscribers can authenticate themselves using Aadhar authentication as it establishes the real identity of the person who subscribes or does a transaction. For example, residents can authenticate themselves using Adhar for standard security related requirements such as entry to airports, hotels etc.; as identity proofs in various examinations (such as medical, engineering entrance etc.)

AS A UNIFYING DOCUMENT FOR ROLLING OUT LOT OF BENEFITS

Adhar number has been seen as a common identifier to link related databases. The following are some of the relevant applications:
  • Healthcare and patient records database (local, regional and national level).
  • Credit bureaus for customer rating information.
  • National skills registry and enable tracking of individuals through the lifecycle.
  • Large entities that need to implement single customer view across services provided such as banks, insurance companies.
  • As we know, subsidies like LPG etc can be rolled out directly to the beneficiaries.
  • State-wise view of residents across the welfare schemes. This can be the number of schemes accessed by resident; or potential linkage of Janani Suraksha Yojana, Integrated Child Development Services or Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan to track health and education for every child and so on.
Apart from the above, companies like Samsung and others are also working on integrating Aadhar data to their devices. Soon ATMs would give out cash using Aadhar Data without the need for ATM cards.

We will update this space with the recent developments on this front.
