Aadhar Cards for NRI – A Move to Ensure Women are not Duped by Recruiting Agents

The Government of India is considering giving Aadhar Card for NRI  (non resident of India) and a call on that will be taken as soon as possible, said external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj .This would turn out a boon to those are trying very hard to get a unique ID. The Process involved in getting one would be similar to the initial process followed for the residents of India as per the discussion made so far. And some measures will be taken regarding the women workers who fly to Gulf countries who are falling victims to the private recruiting agencies.

AADHAR CARD FOR NRI

At the first limited edition of Pravasi Bhartiya Divas, Swaraj in her address told that it has been decided that working women are going to be allowed to travel to Gulf countries for employment solely through government agencies to make sure that they’re not duped by recruiting agents or companies.

AADHAR CARD FOR NRI

The Pravasi Bhartiya Divas, a webcast by most of the Indian missions, which is organised by the external affairs ministry (MEA) for first time just after the government decided to merge ministry of overseas Indian affairs (MOIA) with it.

MOIA used to hosted the event till this year. And 9th January was chosen as the day for Pravasi Bhartiya Divas as it was on the same day in 1915 that Mahatma Gandhi , the “greatest Pravasi”, came back home from South Africa to steer India’s freedom struggle.

Asking the diaspora to participate in the various government programmes like ‘Skill India’ , ‘Digital India’ , ‘Clean Ganga’ she told that Prime Minister Modi wants to extend the Aadhar Card for NRI ‘s .

As of now Aadhar cards are being issued only to those who are permanent residents of India . It is not for Non-residents of India. But you will be happy to know that Prime Minister wants the most powerful identification card to be given to the NRI’s same as it is issued to to the residents of India. That is he wants it to be given to them only under our consideration. No decision has been taken as discussions are going on under way, “I hope you will hear about it as soon as possible “, said Swaraj during her address.

92 CRORE AADHAR CARD ISSUED SO FAR

The Indian government had issued 92 crore Aadhar cards to the citizens till now. Now it is discussing on the initiative Aadhar Card for NRI .

Under this programme, every citizen  of India is to be provided with a 12-digit unique identification number for which biometric information is collected which is taken up by UIDAI(Unique Identification Authority of India) on behalf of Government of India.

On controlling women from going to Gulf countries through the private recruiting agencies, she said that the choice has been taken to prevent them from getting duped .

She also said , “We will send women only through government agencies“, which ensures their security. Calling on the delegates to take part in India growth story, “It is time for you to come back to India.” Appraising Modi, she also told that India’s engagement with Indians abroad has increased because of his attempt to reach out to the community.

She also mentioned Modi’s speech at Madison Square USA as well as from Wembley in London “Your achievements in the countries of your adoption are a matter of pride… It is our responsibility to protect you and take care of you.  Indeed, we are you and you are us,”

So if everything goes well and if all the discussions go on in the favour of the NRI’s , we will be seeing a new rule that allows NRI’s to obtain an Aadhar card same the residents of India get it.
