Aadhar Card Update – Verified Aadhar Correction Process [2017]

Aadhar program was launched in 2009 with the objective to give a universal identity to every Indian citizen. However, like any other document, chances are that the Aadhar might require changes or updates to the data that was submitted at the time of application.

This Aadhar Card Update maybe needed due to mistakes or changes in the information like address, name, mobile number, Date of Birth, etc.

Make Aadhar Card Correction – Click on the Details you would like to Update in Your Aadhar Card

UIDAI has introduced Aadhar Card Self Service Update Portal (SSUP) to apply for Aadhar Card Correction and Aadhar update.

You can only change the following Aadhar details via the UIDAI online portal:

• Name

• Gender

• Date of Birth

• Address

• Mobile number – Do note that via the UIDAI website, you can only update / change the existing mobile number. However, if you have not added any mobile number to your Aadhar previously, and this is the first time you are adding a mobile number to Aadhar, the same cannot be done online. • Email ID

Aadhar Card Update: Change or Correct the Various Details in your Aadhar

Update name in Aadhar

Possible reasons for Aadhar Card name correction:

• Due to a spelling mistake or wrong name appearing on Aadhar

• Name changed with an affidavit

• Name change after marriage

• Part of name to be added

• Change of name in Aadhar card for any other reason

Do Note: Like any other process of Aadhar, the Aadhar card name correction can be done both online and offline.

Aadhar Card Update for Name – Online

Change of name in Aadhar online can only be done if your mobile number is registered with the UIDAI.

Simple steps for change of name in Aadhar card

• Go to the UIDAI Official Portal by clicking here.

• Once you are on the website, Click “Update Aadhar Details (Online)” option available at the top.

• Now, click on the button that says ‘Update your Aadhar data’.

• Next, the page ‘Aadhar Self-Service Update Portal (SSUP)’ page will open. It provides information and instructions regarding change of name in Aadhar Card.

• Find the following text at the bottom, “To submit your update/ correction request online please CLICK HERE” and click “CLICK HERE”.

• A new page will open up. Over here, you will have to provide your Aadhar number and click on the ‘Send OTP‘ option.

• You will now receive the OTP on your registered mobile number. Enter the OTP and security text you receive correctly and ‘Submit’.

• The Update Aadhar details page will now open on your browser, with options for the Aadhar details you need to update.

• In the Data Update request page, you will need to select the ‘Name’ option for Aadhar card name correction.

• Here, you can fill in your correct details, check the spelling of your name and update it. We request you to double-check the spelling of your name to avoid any mistakes.

• You will then need to provide the appropriate documentation to approve the change of name in Aadhar. Click here to find out the right documents to submit.

• The documents should be self- attested and signed.

• They can be in pdf, word format, or an image (png, jpg, bmp, gif, etc.).

• Or you can download CamScanner mobile app that will generate scanner-like images of your self-attested document proofs.

• After uploading the documents, select your BPO service provider based on the Avg. response time and click on the ‘Submit’ button.

• On successful submission, an Update Request Number (URN) will be generated and sent to you – the Aadhar Card holder – via SMS.

You have now successfully submitted your Aadhar Card Name Request via the online process.

Aadhar Card Name Correction – Offline

The offline process takes more time and effort, so we recommend that if it’s possible, go for the online update process as mentioned above.

• To change name in Aadhar card via offline method, you will have to download and print an Aadhar correction form. Click here to download the form.

• Fill in the Aadhar details correctly in block letters and put your signature at the bottom.

• Attach self-signed valid documents as required for your details change. Go here to find the list of Documents for Aadhar update.

• Mention your Aadhar number on all documents and Aadhar Correction Form.

• Then, submit it to our nearest Aadhar Card Enrollment centre. Find nearest Aadhar enrolment centre here.

OR

• Send it via Post to any one of the following addresses:

• On the envelope, also mention ‘Aadhar update/ correction’ and seal it properly.

Update Address in Aadhar (Aadhar Address Correction)

Reasons for Aadhar Card Address Change

• Address change due to relocation for job change.

• Update Aadhar card address after marriage.

• Mistake in address.

• Change in address due to moving/ relocating to a new place.

Update Aadhar Card Address Online

The process for Aadhar card address change is similar to the change of name in Aadhar.

If you have a mobile number linked to your Aadhar Card, then it is simple to use the Portal to update Aadhar Card address.

• Just visit the Self Service Update Portal by UIDAI by clicking here.

• Enter your Aadhar Number in the place mentioned.

• Enter the Captcha or the “Text Verification” as seen in the image.

• Click on ‘Send OTP‘ and you will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number.

• Enter the received OTP and click on the ‘Login” button.

• You will now be taken to the “Data Update Request’ page.

• The page will have options asking you to select the details to be changed. Select the Address option to update Aadhar card address.

• Fill in the details of the Aadhar Card Address which has to be changed.

• You will also see the Address being simultaneously being updated in the local language to the right.

• Check the Address and the details carefully.

• Upload the Aadhar card address change documents. Go to this link to find valid documents of address proof for Aadhar.

• You will now receive an URN (Update Request Number) on your mobile as well as a link to download and save as PDF your URN slip. Keep this URN slip safely.

• After 2-3 weeks, you can use this URN number to check your Aadhar card address change update status. Find out here.

The offline process is a little longer and might be a hassle for some. So, we recommend that if it’s possible, submit an Aadhar Address Change Request via the online method.

But if you do not have a registered mobile number, you would not be able to update Aadhar card address online.

Offline method to update Aadhar Card Address

• You will have to visit the nearest Aadhar Card Kendra and fill Aadhar correction form manually. Download the form here.

• Tick mark Address from the “Fields to Update” column at the top.

• Fill in the form correctly with the details of your address and other details asked, and send the same to either of the following 2 addresses:

UIDAI Post Box No. 10, Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh – 480001, India

UIDAI Post Box No. 99, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad – 500034, India

• You have to make sure to attach at least one of the accepted Aadhar card address change documents from the list available here.

Update Date of Birth (DOB)

Have recently noticed that your DOB is mentioned incorrectly in your Aadhar card? Apply for change in Aadhar card date of birth.

The process for correction of Date of Birth (DOB) in Aadhar card is the same as name and address change corrections in Aadhar Card.

Update Date of Birth in Aadhar Card – Online and Offline

• Visit the Aadhar Self Service Update Portal by UIDAI by clicking here.

• Enter your Aadhar Number in the place as mentioned below.

• Enter the Captcha or the “Text Verification” as seen in the image.

• Click on ‘Send OTP‘ and you will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number.

• Enter the received OTP and click on the ‘Login” button.

• You will now be taken to the “Data Update Request’ page.

• Select the Date of Bith “DOB” option.

• On the page you are taken to now, Fill in the details asked and enter the Correct DoB.

• Recheck your newly entered Date of Birth before submitting the update request.

• Upload the required documents of proof for DoB change request. You can check the list of valid documents of proof for DoB update over here.

• Once you successfuly sub,it the request for Aadhar Card DoB change, wait for 2-3 weeks. Then print your updated Aadhar card by visiting the eAadhar portal over here: https://eaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/ and follow these simple steps to download e Aadhar Card.

The offline method will require you to fill an Aadhar correction form and submit it at the nearest UIDAI/ Aadhar Enrolment centre – You can check the detailed Offline process for Aadhar Card DoB change here.

How to Add Mobile Number in Aadhar Card?

To freshly add mobile number in Aadhar, you will have to visit the nearest Aadhar enrolment centre in case your mobile number is not already registered.

Add Mobile Number in Aadhar Card by Visiting the Enrolment Centre:

• Go to the nearest Aadhar enrolment centre in your area. You can find the closest Aadhar Enrolment Center here.

• Once at the enrolment centre, provide your 12 digit Aadhar number and your mobile number to be registered.

• Once you do that, you will receive an OTP on the mobile number provided.

• Give this OTP to the Aadhar operator at the enrolment centre.

• After the verification of OTP, your biometric scan will be done next for verification purposes.

• After its completion, a confirmation SMS will be sent to your newly verified mobile number that is to be linked to your Aadhar card within 72 hours.

Using the above simple process, you can add new mobile number to Aadhar Card.

Update Mobile No. in Aadhar – The Quick and Easy Way

Follow the simple steps to update mobile no. in Aadhar.

Do Note: To update your Mobile in Aadhar Card, you will need an existing mobile number already linked to your Aadhar card.

For Updating Mobile and Email in Aadhar, you DO NOT Require ANY Documents.

• Visit UIDAI Aadhar Self-Service portal here.

• The page ‘Aadhar Self Service Update Portal’ will be opened.

• Enter your 12 digit Aadhar number.

• Now enter the Captcha or text verification number shown on the screen.

• Click on Send OTP and enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile number. Click “Login” button.

• Under ‘Select field(s) to update’ in ‘Details to be Updated’, select ‘Mobile Number’.aadhar card correction update request - select mobile to update

• Now update mobile number in the fields provided and click on ‘Submit and Update’.

• Verify and note down the URN you see on this page. Or take a print out of the URN slip to check your Aadhar Mobile No. update status.

This is how you can update mobile no in Aadhar Card through the online process.

Update Aadhar Mobile Number via Offline method: The nearest Aadhar enrolment centre can be visited or form can be sent by post to UIDAI to apply to update mobile number offline after filling an Aadhar correction form. Add / Update Email ID – Aadhaar

The guide to add or update email ID is very similar to other Aadhar update requests.

Do Note: To update your Email in Aadhar Card, you will need an existing mobile number already linked to your Aadhar card.

For Updating Mobile and Email in Aadhar, you DO NOT Require ANY Documents.

• Visit UIDAI Aadhar Self-Service portal here.

• The page ‘Aadhar Self Service Update Portal’ will be open.

• Enter your 12 digit Aadhar number and the Verification Text that appears on the screen.

• You will now receive an OTP on your registered Mobile number.

• Enter the OTP and click “Login” button.

• Once you are on the Data Update Request page, select “Email“.

• Now Enter the Email ID you wish to update and confirm the same to be sure it is the correct one. And click Proceed.

You will now see the URN or the Update Request Number – Save it or Download the PDF file. This will be required to Check the Update Request Status for the same.

Wrongly written Father’s / Husband’s Name

In the case of a wrongly written father’s / husband’s name, you will need a Registered Mobile Number. Follow these steps to correct wrongly written father’s / husband’s name.

Do Note:

• You cannot directly change the Father / Husband’s name in Aadhar as there is no direct option to do that ONLINE.

• We recommend the Offline Option – We have mentioned the process for the same below.

In case you want to proceed with the Online Option to Correct Husband’s OR Father’s Name in Aadhar – Check the steps below:

• Visit the official UIDAI Self Service Update Portal using the link here and click ‘Click Here’ button in the first option to do the update online.

• Once there, you will now see a page like this:

• Enter your 12 digit AADHAR card number and the text verification, and generate OTP on your registered mobile number.

There are 2 Options you can explore:

• Select the Update Name  option in Aadhar and write your Name with your Father/Husband’s name like this:

• FirstName   Father/Husband’sName   Surname (example, Rohan Rajaram Kohli or Vaishnavi Rohan Kohli)

• OR – Option 2 is You select to Change the Address and in the First Column – C/O you select either of the options (whichever applicable):

• S/O – Means Son Of and Write your Father’s Name

• D/O  – Means Daughter Of and Write your Father’s Name

• W/O – Means Wife Of and Write your Husband’s Name

Now, in the 2nd Option – You will need to re-enter your address and also submit the Address Change document for the S/O, D/O or W/O filed to be added to your Aadhar Card.

As mentioned at the start of this section, this is a workaround as there is NO direct option to do it online!

Offline Method to Change Father’s or Husband’s Name in Aadhar card

The recommended way to Correct Father’s Or Husband’s name in Aadhar is to visit the nearest enrolment centre and follow the suggestions of the Aadhar Operators. To find the nearest enrolment centre, click here.

Update Local language

The Aadhar Card database is in English, correspondence can be done both in your local language and English. When you fill in the form, it has to be filled in English and the local language of the place of residence.

• There is no official method to change the local language.

• The default local language is the local language of your place of residence, or the address mentioned in your Aadhar card.

• The only way to change the local language is to submit application for address change when you shift to a different region – with a different local language. The local language will then be changed to the regional language pertaining to your address.

• For example: If you change your address anywhere within say Maharashtra – the local language will still be the same, that is Marathi. Now let’s say you shift from Maharashtra to Gujarat, and update the address – in such case the Local Language of Gujarat will automatically be changed in your Aadhar.

DO NOTE: The local language also depends on the location where your Aadhar is enrolled or updated. For example if you have enrolled for Aadhar in Maharashtra and your permanent address on Aadhar is Gujarat – Still your local language will be Marathi.

Update Biometrics: Retina Scan/ Fingerprint

Is your fingerprint not matching? Has there been an accident that altered your fingerprint? Have you undergone an eye operation and need to update retina scan?

What to do now? Do not worry because there is a way to update the biometric and retina information associated with your Aadhaar.

You will have to visit a Permanent Enrolment Centre to submit the new retina scan / fingerprint.

Do note that owing to the nature of this update, you cannot update your biometric data like retina scan/ fingerprint online or by post.

Citizens can place a biometric update request to update retina scan/ fingerprint with the help of an operator at a Permanent Enrolment Centre found by clicking here.

• To update retina scan/ fingerprint,  the verification is done in line with DDSVP Committee Recommendations followed during the enrolment process.

• We also suggest keeping the Address and ID proof documents handy when you visit the Aadhaar Permanent Enrolment Center.

• Once you are at the Aadhar Permanent Enrolment Center, ask for a Biometric / Retina scan update form.

• You will be asked to record the retina OR fingerprint scans on their devices.

• At the Enrolment centre, a biometric check is done at the back-end to verify your identity.

• Then you will have to submit your duly filled form with all your details and the update is done by the operator as requested.

• After the process is completed by the operator, you will get an acknowledgment receipt with Update Request Number (URN) which can be tracked to check the status of your update retina scan/ fingerprint update.

What to do if Mobile Number is no Longer Active?

What if:

• Your mobile no is no longer active OR

• You have lost your mobile OR

• You do not possess your Aadhar registered mobile number anymore?

You will have to either visit your nearest Aadhar Update/ Enrolment Centre or send your Aadhar update request through Post.

• Download the Aadhar Update Request Form from here.

• All the details should be filled in CAPITAL LETTERS only.

• Provide your working mobile number to update your Aadhar and to contact you faster.

• Write your 12 digit Aadhar number on all the documents and pages.

• Seal your application in an envelope and mention ‘Aadhar Update/Correction’ in clear letters on the envelope.

• Post the document to one of these addresses:

UIDAI Post-Box No. 10, Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh – 480001, India

UIDAI Post-Box No. 99, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad – 500034, India

• An update request receipt will be sent to you when your application is received.

• The confirmation of the update of your mobile number will be sent to the mobile number you provided.

Updated Aadhar Card not received

Have you applied for an Aadhar Card data update but did not receive the updated Card Aadhar card?

Typically, it takes 2-3 weeks to update your Aadhar data on the basis of your request. The Aadhar letter with updates will be sent to your address when the update is successfully processed.

However, if you DO NOT RECEIVE AADHAR even after a month of submitting Aadhar Update request, the government has provided the facility to download eAadhar online on the official UIDAI portal.

An e-Aadhar is a softcopy of your Aadhar card. It is as valid as the hardcopy and can easily be downloaded online. The printed eAadhar can be used as a physical copy of the Aadhar.

To obtain your e-Aadhar, follow these steps:

• Find the Aadhar Services/Kiosk link on the UIDAI website here and click on the ‘Get E-Aadhar’ link on the Aadhar Kiosk page.

OR

• You can directly go to the eAadhar application page by clicking here.

• You can either use your Enrolment ID or your Aadhar number to get the eAadhar.

• If you have your Aadhar acknowledgment slip, choose the ‘Enrolment ID’ option at the top of the form.

• The Aadhar acknowledgment slip contains an Enrolment ID and the date and time when the slip was generated. The first 14 digits are your enrolment number.

• If you have lost or do not know your UID or EID then, click here to find the same.

• If you already know your Aadhar/UID number, you can choose ‘Aadhar’ at the top of the form. You will then need to enter your 12-digit Aadhar number.

• On the page you will now see this:

• Write your full name, PIN code of your address, the security code, and your registered mobile number.

• An OTP will be delivered to your mobile number.

• Enter the OTP and click on ‘Validate and Download’ to download your eAadhar copy in PDF format.

Do Note: The eAadhar PDF is password protected. The Password to open eAadhar file is the Pin Code of your address registered in your Aadhar card.

What is URN?

The Aadhar Card Update Request Number, also called Aadhar card URN Number, is the number that you get when you submit a request for Aadhar card correction or update.

• Whenever you send an Aadhar Card Correction or Update Request Online or By Post or by visiting the Enrolment Center, at the end of process you will recieve an Update Request Number.

• This is your Aadhar Card URN Number which you can use to track the status of your Aadhar Card Update online. Note the URN number very carefully.

How to check Aadhar Update Status? Can you Check Status even when URN is Lost?

Do Note: Once you make the Update Request for Correction of Aadhar Data Online or Offline, The URN – Update Request Number is generated and shared with you in multiple ways, as described below:

In case of Online Update or Aadhar Correction request:

• The URN is Displayed on Screen

• Given as a PDF to Download

• Sent on your Mobile Number as an SMS

• Sent on email (if your email is registered)

In case of Offline Update or Aadhar Card Correction Request:

• URN is generated and printed on a slip and handed over to you

• An SMS will be sent on your registered mobile number as well

Thus you have many chances to SAVE and Carefully keep the URN – As the URN is VERY VERY Important to Check the Aadhar Update Request.

If you lose the URN – We recommend you visit the Nearest Enrolment Centre to Check the Update Status Request.

Check Update Status using the URN:

You can check your Aadhar card update status with your Aadhar/UID number and URN number.

Using these simple steps, you can obtain the update status in less than 5 minutes.

• To check Aadhar update status, you would need the Self Service Update Portal. Click here to go to the status check page.

• The update status page asks you to enter 2 fields:

• Aadhar Number

• URN number– You would have received this while applying for the Aadhar Card Update.

• You may be asked to Enter a Captcha or Verification Text – If asked, do enter that to check the status of your Aadhar Update Request.

• Just enter these details and click on ‘Get Status‘.

You will then be shown the status of your Aadhar card update application.

Common Aadhar Card Correction / Update Processes for Updating Anything in Aadhar

If it is not possible for you to update Aadhar details via the easier online method, you do not need to worry. You can also change your Aadhar details via Post or by Visting the Enrolment Centre:

Update by Post:

Step-by-step guide on how to request for Aadhar update via post:

• Download and print the Update/Correction form here.

• Select the appropriate option about the details to be updated from the first form field, “Field for Update/Correction:“

• Enter your 12-digit Aadhar Number and then fill up all the details as mentioned on your Aadhar Card.

• Fill the form in CAPITAL LETTERS only and enter the details to be changed in Aadhar Card correctly.

• Mention the type of ‘document of identity’ and attach the above document to prove your details change is true. Write your Aadhar Number on the document and self-sign or put the thumb print. You can find the complete list of acceptable proof documents over  here.

• Re-check your form to see if your information has been filled correctly.

• Put the fully filled form in an envelope and clearly write ‘Aadhar Update/Correction’ on the envelope. Also, do not forget to write your name and address.

• Send the Aadhar Correction form along with the self-signed documents to one of the following addresses to update by post:

UIDAI, Post Box No.99, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad – 500034, India.

• Post your form along with the self-attested documents and you will receive the confirmation message of your Aadhar Card details update after a few days.

• The Aadhar card details will be updated within 2-3 weeks of your update by post application

Aadhar Update by Visiting the Enrolment Centre

Offline update can be done through post and at an enrolment centre also. Find your nearest enrolment centre by clicking here.

• Download the form to get Aadhar update at Enrolment centre by  clicking here.

• Select all the fields that you want to be updated /corrected. You can select more than one field.

• Fill only the current details in the form.

• Write your full details and submit supporting documents for the details to be changed.

• Provide your correct mobile number so that any necessary clarifications can be done easily. 

• The status of the update will be sent to you by SMS.

• Check that the details are accurate and complete.

• You have to self-attest or self-sign the required documents for correction purpose.

• To update at Enrolment centre, find the nearest location here and submit your full application there.

• The Aadhar letter with updates will be sent to your address when the update is processed. The notification for the update will be sent to your registered mobile number.

Aadhar card details update online is a simple process:

• Visit the UIDAI Aadhar Self-Service portal (SSUP) on this link to update online.

• Enter your 12 digit Aadhar number to login and update your details.

• Enter your Captcha details and click on ‘Send OTP’ to receive it on your registered mobile number.

• After the OTP entered. click “Login” button.

• You will be taken to “Data Update Request” page.

• Here, you may select the fields you wish to change / update online.

• On the next page, you can enter the details you wish to update correctly and click on ‘Submit’.
