Update Local language
The Aadhar Card database is in English, correspondence can be done both in your local language and English. When you fill in the form, it has to be filled in English and the local language of the place of residence.
DO NOTE: The local language also depends on the location where your Aadhar is enrolled or updated. For example if you have enrolled for Aadhar in Maharashtra and your permanent address on Aadhar is Gujarat – Still your local language will be Marathi.

Typically, it takes 2-3 weeks to update your Aadhar data on the basis of your request. The Aadhar letter with updates will be sent to your address when the update is successfully processed.
However, if you DO NOT RECEIVE AADHAR even after a month of submitting Aadhar Update request, the government has provided the facility to download eAadhar online on the official UIDAI portal.
An e-Aadhar is a softcopy of your Aadhar card. It is as valid as the hardcopy and can easily be downloaded online. The printed eAadhar can be used as a physical copy of the Aadhar.

- Now, click on the button that says ‘Update your Aadhar data’.
- Next, the page ‘Aadhar Self-Service Update Portal (SSUP)’ page will open. It provides information and instructions regarding change of name in Aadhar Card.
- Find the following text at the bottom, “To submit your update/ correction request online please CLICK HERE” and click “CLICK HERE”.
- A new page will open up. Over here, you will have to provide your Aadhar number and click on the ‘Send OTP‘ option.
- You will now receive the OTP on your registered mobile number. Enter the OTP and security text you receive correctly and ‘Submit’.
- The Update Aadhar details page will now open on your browser, with options for the Aadhar details you need to update.
- In the Data Update request page, you will need to select the ‘Name’ option for Aadhar card name correction.
- Here, you can fill in your correct details, check the spelling of your name and update it. We request you to double-check the spelling of your name to avoid any mistakes.
- You will then need to provide the appropriate documentation to approve the change of name in Aadhar. Click here to find out the right documents to submit.
- The documents should be self- attested and signed.
- They can be in pdf, word format, or an image (png, jpg, bmp, gif, etc.).
- Or you can download CamScanner mobile app that will generate scanner-like images of your self-attested document proofs.
- After uploading the documents, select your BPO service provider based on the Avg. response time and click on the ‘Submit’ button.
- On successful submission, an Update Request Number (URN) will be generated and sent to you – the Aadhar Card holder – via SMS.

- Enter the Captcha or the “Text Verification” as seen in the image.
- Click on ‘Send OTP‘ and you will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number.
- Enter the received OTP and click on the ‘Login” button.
- You will now be taken to the “Data Update Request’ page.
- The page will have options asking you to select the details to be changed. Select the Address option to update Aadhar card address.
- Fill in the details of the Aadhar Card Address which has to be changed.
- You will also see the Address being simultaneously being updated in the local language to the right.

How to Add Mobile Number in Aadhar Card?

- Visit the official UIDAI Self Service Update Portal using the link here and click ‘Click Here’ button in the first option to do the update online.
- Once there, you will now see a page like this:
- Enter your 12 digit AADHAR card number and the text verification, and generate OTP on your registered mobile number.
- Select the Update Name option in Aadhar and write your Name with your Father/Husband’s name like this:
- FirstName Father/Husband’sName Surname (example, Rohan Rajaram Kohli or Vaishnavi Rohan Kohli)

- OR – Option 2 is You select to Change the Address and in the First Column – C/O you select either of the options (whichever applicable):

- There is no official method to change the local language.
- The default local language is the local language of your place of residence, or the address mentioned in your Aadhar card.
- The only way to change the local language is to submit application for address change when you shift to a different region – with a different local language. The local language will then be changed to the regional language pertaining to your address.
- For example: If you change your address anywhere within say Maharashtra – the local language will still be the same, that is Marathi. Now let’s say you shift from Maharashtra to Gujarat, and update the address – in such case the Local Language of Gujarat will automatically be changed in your Aadhar.
DO NOTE: The local language also depends on the location where your Aadhar is enrolled or updated. For example if you have enrolled for Aadhar in Maharashtra and your permanent address on Aadhar is Gujarat – Still your local language will be Marathi.

- Once you are at the Aadhar Permanent Enrolment Center, ask for a Biometric / Retina scan update form.
- You will be asked to record the retina OR fingerprint scans on their devices.
- At the Enrolment centre, a biometric check is done at the back-end to verify your identity.
- Then you will have to submit your duly filled form with all your details and the update is done by the operator as requested.
- After the process is completed by the operator, you will get an acknowledgment receipt with Update Request Number (URN) which can be tracked to check the status of your update retina scan/ fingerprint update.

- The Aadhar acknowledgment slip contains an Enrolment ID and the date and time when the slip was generated. The first 14 digits are your enrolment number.

- If you already know your Aadhar/UID number, you can choose ‘Aadhar’ at the top of the form. You will then need to enter your 12-digit Aadhar number.
- On the page you will now see this:
- Write your full name, PIN code of your address, the security code, and your registered mobile number.
- An OTP will be delivered to your mobile number.
- Enter the OTP and click on ‘Validate and Download’ to download your eAadhar copy in PDF format.
Do Note: The eAadhar PDF is password protected. The Password to open eAadhar file is the Pin Code of your address registered in your Aadhar card.
What is URN?
The Aadhar Card Update Request Number, also called Aadhar card URN Number, is the number that you get when you submit a request for Aadhar card correction or update.
- Whenever you send an Aadhar Card Correction or Update Request Online or By Post or by visiting the Enrolment Center, at the end of process you will recieve an Update Request Number.
- This is your Aadhar Card URN Number which you can use to track the status of your Aadhar Card Update online. Note the URN number very carefully.

How to check Aadhar Update Status? Can you Check Status even when URN is Lost?
Do Note: Once you make the Update Request for Correction of Aadhar Data Online or Offline, The URN – Update Request Number is generated and shared with you in multiple ways, as described below:
In case of Online Update or Aadhar Correction request:
- The URN is Displayed on Screen
- Given as a PDF to Download
- Sent on your Mobile Number as an SMS
- Sent on email (if your email is registered)
In case of Offline Update or Aadhar Card Correction Request:
- URN is generated and printed on a slip and handed over to you
- An SMS will be sent on your registered mobile number as well
Thus you have many chances to SAVE and Carefully keep the URN – As the URN is VERY VERY Important to Check the Aadhar Update Request.
If you lose the URN – We recommend you visit the Nearest Enrolment Centre to Check the Update Status Request.
Check Update Status using the URN:
You can check your Aadhar card update status with your Aadhar/UID number and URN number.
Using these simple steps, you can obtain the update status in less than 5 minutes.
- To check Aadhar update status, you would need the Self Service Update Portal. Click here to go to the status check page.
- The update status page asks you to enter 2 fields:
- Aadhar Number
- URN number– You would have received this while applying for the Aadhar Card Update.
- You may be asked to Enter a Captcha or Verification Text – If asked, do enter that to check the status of your Aadhar Update Request.
- Just enter these details and click on ‘Get Status‘.
You will then be shown the status of your Aadhar card update application.

Common Aadhar Card Correction / Update Processes for Updating Anything in Aadhar
If it is not possible for you to update Aadhar details via the easier online method, you do not need to worry. You can also change your Aadhar details via Post or by Visting the Enrolment Centre:

Step-by-step guide on how to request for Aadhar update via post:
- Download and print the Update/Correction form here.
- Select the appropriate option about the details to be updated from the first form field, “Field for Update/Correction:“
- Enter your 12-digit Aadhar Number and then fill up all the details as mentioned on your Aadhar Card.
- Fill the form in CAPITAL LETTERS only and enter the details to be changed in Aadhar Card correctly.
- Mention the type of ‘document of identity’ and attach the above document to prove your details change is true. Write your Aadhar Number on the document and self-sign or put the thumb print. You can find the complete list of acceptable proof documents over here.
- Re-check your form to see if your information has been filled correctly.
- Put the fully filled form in an envelope and clearly write ‘Aadhar Update/Correction’ on the envelope. Also, do not forget to write your name and address.
- Send the Aadhar Correction form along with the self-signed documents to one of the following addresses to update by post:

UIDAI, Post Box No.99, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad – 500034, India.
- Post your form along with the self-attested documents and you will receive the confirmation message of your Aadhar Card details update after a few days.
- The Aadhar card details will be updated within 2-3 weeks of your update by post application
Aadhar Update by Visiting the Enrolment Centre
Offline update can be done through post and at an enrolment centre also. Find your nearest enrolment centre by clicking here.
- Download the form to get Aadhar update at Enrolment centre by clicking here.
- Select all the fields that you want to be updated /corrected. You can select more than one field.
- Fill only the current details in the form.
- Write your full details and submit supporting documents for the details to be changed.
- Provide your correct mobile number so that any necessary clarifications can be done easily.
- The status of the update will be sent to you by SMS.
- Check that the details are accurate and complete.
- You have to self-attest or self-sign the required documents for correction purpose.
- To update at Enrolment centre, find the nearest location here and submit your full application there.
- The Aadhar letter with updates will be sent to your address when the update is processed. The notification for the update will be sent to your registered mobile number.
Common Process to Aadhar Update Online
Aadhar card details update online is a simple process:
- Visit the UIDAI Aadhar Self-Service portal (SSUP) on this link to update online.
- Enter your 12 digit Aadhar number to login and update your details.
- Enter your Captcha details and click on ‘Send OTP’ to receive it on your registered mobile number.
- After the OTP entered. click “Login” button.
- You will be taken to “Data Update Request” page.
- Here, you may select the fields you wish to change / update online.
- On the next page, you can enter the details you wish to update correctly and click on ‘Submit’.
