Will the Govt. be able to Convince Supreme Court about Aadhaar Card?

GOVT. TO CONVINCE SUPREME COURT ABOUT AADHAAR CARD:

However, it had subsequently developed as a driving force for a good governance agenda. More than 47 crore transactions including the delivery of government services are carried out using Aadhaar this year.

The ascent has been relentless throughout this year 2015 – to 7.9 crore in November from 1.3 crore in January, as shown in the presentation given at PMO.

Since the beginning of the Aadhaar card authentication services in 2010 about 110 crore transactions took place.

Despite this the enrollment level had reached 90%of the entire adult population, the Supreme court fears that tying all the benefits to the unique ID may leaves the needy behind from acquiring the services, besides the privacy issue.

It’s been learnt that cabinet secretary will steer the drafting of a new methodology alongside the senior government secretaries on stretching the Aadhaar card to more government services.

In the mean time the government will persuade the Supreme court on Aadhaar’s utility . Aadhaar faces the privacy challenges in the front with some critics worried about the access to individuals data.

PM’S ADDRESS

In his Mann Ki Baat address, Modi said that almost Rs 40,000 crore have been transferred directly to the beneficiary bank accounts which always was one of the main aim of Aadhaar project-accurate targeting and zero leakage of welfare payments.

Modi in his address also said that about 15 crore people are receiving heir LPG subsidy directly into their bank accounts, which he mentioned was a world record.

Another flagship initiative by UPA government that is deployed for a good cause in rural job programme. Out of 9.5 crore MGNRES workers about 53% in 300 districts are presently seeded with the IDs and 2.84 crore payment transactions are entirely done only using the Aadhaar payment connect.

As per the data received, almost 5.6 crore such transactions are made through Aadhaar platform whereas the rest are using account-based transfer scheme with a record of about 60% of 16.33 crore recipients under LPG Pahal scheme are now given the IDs.

The online Aadhaar authentication system is now capable of processing about 10 crore transactions daily resulting in 90% of Aadhaar card saturation in adult population with about 95 crore unique IDs issued.

As of now the court has ordered that , “no personal information of Aadhaar cad holders will be shared with any of the authorities or individuals concerned”.

The court however allowed to access the personal information of Aadhaar card holders for any criminal investigations with right permissions.

CONCLUSION

If by linking of all the benefits, the government can show on a noticeable reduction in leakages, corruption in each and every level of the process by reducing middleman , and improvements that ensure better accountability  to all the government services, that ought to be enough evidence to Supreme Court. And the government should gain trust from Supreme Court by giving the exact and latest records on how the project is being taken forward which allows them to continue the project.
