UIDAI – A History in itself

UIDAI, the Central Government agency that issues aadhar cards to the citizens of the country, was set up as an attached office under the aegis of the Planning Commission on 28 January 2009. Also, it was given the responsibility to lay down plans and policies to implement Aadhar scheme. It is now proposed to be set up as a statutory authority by the name of “National Identification Authority of India” after the National Identification Authority of India, Bill 2010, was passed.

UIDAI Office

The UIDAI is headquartered in Delhi with Dr. A B P Pandey as the Director General and Mission Director. Presently, he is also handling the additional responsibilities of the Chairman. At present there are 383 officers and subordinate staff with the UIDAI. Regional Offices have been set up at Bangalore, Chandigarh, Delhi, Hyderabad, Guwahati, Lucknow, Mumbai and Ranchi with their jurisdiction covering specific states across the country.

UIDAI Grievance Redressal

The UIDAI has a comprehensive grievance redressal mechanism for resolution of the queries and grievances of residents. A Contact Centre called “Aadhaar Sampark Kendra” has been set up by UIDAI as a central point of contact for such purposes.

Aadhaar Sampark Kendra maintains a seamless framework for handling queries and grievances and for effective resolution of issues encountered during pre and post-enrolment stages of Aadhar.

Presently, Voice support i.e. Interactive Voice Recognition System (IVRS) and agent, is available in 12 languages and Email support is available in English only.

UIDAI has the following channels of communication through which residents can raise their concerns:

The residents can dial Toll free number “1947” and follow Interactive Voice Recognition System (IVRS) instructions to get answers to his/her queries.

Residents can send their queries via email to the mentioned id and get it addressed.

Residents can file a complaint through the above link. The details must be filled in appropriately to lodge a complaint which will be looked upon by UIDAI support team.

I am Unable to access Aadhaar Online Services / Website from outside India. Please suggest?

UIDAI's official website i.e. www.uidai.gov.in doesn't have any such restriction and should be accessible from anywhere. However, some of the UIDAI web based features like Resident Portal, eAadhaar, Self Service Update Portal (SSUP), Aadhaar Linking Status etc are Geo-Based policy enabled and therefore, will not be accessible from outside India.
