PFRDA Enables Aadhar based eKYC – Helps make the process Paperless

The National Pension System (NPS) has developed an online portal to open an Individual Pension Account (IPA). The Aadhar validates the information of the individual opening a new account. It provides the proof of birth, proof of address and proof of identity. As an Aadhar e-KYC for NPS, it is a sufficient and necessary document which is equivalent to KYC (Know Your Customer) collected in banks.  The Aadhar database also has recorded biometrics of every Aadhar card holder. The Aadhar eKYC for NPS, works like several other online portals which request information from the Aadhar database to validate and verify a person’s identity.

Aadhar eKYC based Paperless, Online Process for Pensioners

Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) which is an autonomous body, initiated the acceptance of Aadhar eKYC for NPS as a valid process for KYC verification, alternative to the other permitted documents of identity and address (Permanent Account Number and savings account). The unique Aadhar numbers help curb multiple or duplicate accounts. PFRDA has appointed  PoPs (Point of Presence), they would be allowed to charge a maximum of Rs. 5 excluding service tax and cess per application for the e-signature service being provided to the subscribers. Due to concerns such as information leak, the NPS demands verification by the individual.
