Karnataka uses Aadhar to Transfer Subsidy to Farmers

In Karnataka more the 9.68 lakh farmers have suffered a crop loss of 26.16 lakh hectares. The State Government has offered subsidies to provide some relief to the farmers who have suffered a great loss due to the crop loss. In order to disperse the subsidy to the farmers, the government employed one of the unique Aadhar Card Uses and has successfully credited about Rs.671 crores to about 1 million farmers across the state.

This is not only a big achievement because of the relief provided to so many farmers but also because Karnataka is the first state to use Aadhar Card for such a purpose.

More Details about the Subsidy provided to the farmers

The State Government is providing relief in the form of these subsidies only to those farmers who have reported a loss of 33% or greater in the yielding of crops than what was initially expected.

The Government is giving out subsidies of Rs.18,000 per hectare for perennial crops, like coconut, mango etc.

Rs.13,500 per hectare to farmers for the crops in irrigated farms and to the crops in rain-fed areas are to be given Rs.6800.Aadhar Card Uses

The Parihara or the Direct Benefit Transfer Programme

The Parihara programme was launched by the Chief Minister of Karnataka which is a programme of Direct Benefit Transfer, a unique initiative which aims that the subsidies provided by the government reached the targeted crop loss-stricken farmers with utmost transparency.

The technology of the Parihara programme has been developed by the Bhoomi monitoring cell and the revenue department.

How does the Parihara Programme work?

The Government has collected from the farmers the important information such as the Aadhar numbers and their Aadhar seeded bank accounts details.

The Bhoomi database was then be used by the revenue and agriculture department to verify the claims made by the farmers and to ascertain if the kind of land they have declared is owned by them.

This step has been put in place in order to ensure that there is no misuse of the subsidies, no fraudulent elements hinder the process and a just distribution is undertaken through which the money reaches the people who most deserve it.
