PAN CARD AND AADHAR CARD: DIFFERENT DOCUMENTS; LINKED TOGETHER!
A PAN also known as the Permanent Account Number is a 10-digit alphanumeric number issued by the Income Tax Department in the form of a laminated card. The main purpose of the PAN is that it enables the Income Tax Department to track all the transactions between the person and the department like tax payments, TDS/TCS credits etc.
An Aadhar Card is a Unique Identification number issued by the UIDAI or the Unique identification Authority of India under the control of the Central Government. While the 12 digit number can be used as an identity and address proof all over in India, it doesn’t prove citizenship.
AADHAR CARD NEWS: DETAILS ABOUT PAN CARD TO AADHAR CARD LINKING
50-lakh mark has been crossed for the Aadhar – PAN linking. The start of this initiative can be traced back to late last year when the CBDT also known the Central Board of Direct Taxes, the policy making body of the Income Tax Department decided to start this initiative of linking two of the biggest databases in the country, one being Aadhar and the other one being PAN Card with an aim to ensure the taxpayers a safe and less-time consuming regime when it comes to filing the tax returns and along with this, ensuring the taxpayers many other tax-related services. “The PAN-Aadhar linkage crossed the 50 lakh. The number as of today stands at 50,57,016 – it is only increasing. The department wants these numbers to grow so that the full e-regime in the delivery of taxpayer services can be ushered in as soon as possible,” a senior official said.
The Senior official also spoke about the Income Tax return filing system which is based on the One Time Password, this new e-filing system allows the verification of a person’s Income Tax Return online by simply using either bank account or internet banking or the Aadhar number along with email id and mobile number this practice of filing Income Tax returns online eliminates the need of sending paper acknowledgment of the Centralized Processing Centre of the Income Tax department in Bengaluru.
The Senior Official notified yet another achievement by saying the one-time password-based ITR filing system for taxpayers has crossed over 80 lakh e-verification mark which is yet another big achievement in the name of Aadhar-PAN.
